Wedding Dresses for a Dramatic Style Personality

Your Shop Girl is back with another series that SmartBride Boutique will be presenting in short succession on style personalities. Read on to see what your style personality is and what that can mean for your wedding dress! Take it away Suzanne!

I often get asked how I choose what stores to shop in for my clients. While colour and body type are obviously important factors, I find that the most valuable information to identify about a client is their style personality.

What is a style personality you ask?

Well, it is a way to categorize people based on what styles, fabrics and cuts they resonate with. Many times the simple question of “Who is your style icon?” can reveal the answer. For everyday ready to wear, this is quite easy; however with brides it becomes slightly more complex. While most brides want to reflect their inner style on their wedding day, many feel that their red carpet moment calls for something more dramatic or out of character. Therefore, when choosing your dress, it is important to separate who you are from who you want to be on your big day.

That’s why for the next few weeks we will be discussing the 7 different Style Personalities and how they will influence your gown choices.

This week we begin with our first of seven, DRAMATIC. Click on the images to go directly to the featured gown.

Style Icons:

Victoria Beckham, Beyonce, Rihanna

Victoria Beckham

  • Bold
  • Attention Grabbing
  • Fashion Forward
  • Confident
  • Straight or Geometric Shapes

  • High Contrast Colours - For example Black and White or Red and White
  • Extravagant Patterns - Coloured crystals? Yes please!

If you tend to gravitate towards show stopping details or colours on your dress you are definitely considered to have a "Dramatic" Style Personality. What you might want to look for in a wedding dress:

  • Colour
  • Embellishment
  • Large Scale Designs or Embellishments

While the cut is fairly classic on this custom made dress, the use of colour is what makes it dramatic. If you have average to narrow shoulders with a larger bust, than this style is for you; the contrasting black neckline breaks up the space, while the eyes are drawn to the waist with the elegant V shaped design.

On the other hand, this Diamond White "Mary" Maggie Sottero, includes extraordinary beading and large scale skirting, and is a perfect selection for a dramatic bride who is having a more traditional wedding. A perfect choice to show off a small upper body and camouflage wider hips.

Tomorrow’s featured style personality is Casual. Check back to see if this fits you!
